Social Center October, Tuesday November 3: But I’m a Cheerleader

Kino October screens Jamie Babbit’s sharp and delightfully subversive 1999 queer satire, But I’m a Cheerleader, on Tuesday. The film follows a girl sent to conversion therapy and, through candy-colored visuals, camp style, and biting humor, takes aim at heteronormativity, patriarchal expectations, and the violent pressure to conform. Beneath its playful surface lies a precise, radical story about the right to be different, to choose yourself, and to love beyond imposed boundaries. Runtime: 1 hour 25 minutes.
