The rich textile traditions of Mexico are coming to Belgrade! The Ethnographic Museum opens its doors to the spectacular exhibition “Exceptional Textiles of Mexico” in celebration of 80 years of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Mexico, and the 125th anniversary of the museum. Visitors can immerse themselves in the stories of 16 Mexican states through 34 authentic traditional outfits and two remarkable fabrics directly from the National Museum of Popular Cultures of Mexico. The exhibition highlights the crafts and techniques cherished by indigenous communities like the Raramuri, Comcaac, Wixárika, Purépecha, Otomi, Nahua, Triqui, Zapotec, Maya, and more for generations. Every piece testifies to the vibrant legacy, art, and everyday life of Mexico. Through rich colors, unique embroideries, and the stories carried by each textile, visitors get a rare opportunity to explore the profound connections between identity, tradition, and contemporary life. This exhibition is a result of collaboration with the Mexican Embassy, culture and foreign affairs ministries of both countries, and the UCUVI unit. This educational and inspiring presentation is part of the museum's anniversary celebration program and is open to all curious visitors during the museum's regular hours.
