Film enthusiasts are offered a rare chance to attend the premiere of the film ‘River and Death’ (El Río y La Muerte, 1954) by legendary Spanish director Luis Buñuel during the closing of the 28th Nitrate Film Festival at the Yugoslav Film Archive. This extremely rare film from his ‘Mexican period’ has seldom been shown in Serbia, with a digital copy provided thanks to cooperation with 'Filmoteca UNAM' from Mexico City. Viewers will be immersed in a tale of blood feud tradition in a small coastal village, the clash of civilization and barbarism, and the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation — all conveyed through Buñuel’s distinctive blend of realism and subtle irony. Exceptional performances by Joaquin Cordero and Jaime Fernández further enhance this cinematic study of societal hypocrisy and inherited rituals. This screening is a unique opportunity for all cinema lovers to discover a forgotten gem of world cinema and enjoy the authentic atmosphere of the iconic archive, surrounded by cinephiles and the nostalgic energy of classic theaters.
