KPGT, October 29 at 8:00 PM — The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare

This striking new take on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew weaves together the Bard’s play with the Yugoslav experience and a generation trying to make sense of both the past and what lies ahead. At its center are a group of young actors gathering in 1986 to stage the piece, while the story also pulls us back to 1946, when women’s equality entered the law but old patterns of behavior remained stubbornly in place. What begins as rehearsals gradually unfolds into a deeper drama about men and women, working together, clashing, and living in a country whose future no longer feels certain. Directed by Vanja Vodeničarević. Runtime: 96 minutes.
