In the heart of Belgrade, within the charming setting of the Museum of Applied Arts, visitors can discover how women's national costumes shaped the visual identity of 19th-century Serbia. Led by the experienced curator Draginja Maskareli, this lecture will feature authentic clothing examples from the collection, portraits of Princess Ljubica Obrenović and other ladies from royal and civilian families, along with lithographs illustrating changes in fashion and society after gaining autonomy in 1830. Through the story of fashion and national expression, the audience will learn how status, affiliation, and modernization were reflected in the clothing and visual identity of women of that time. This is an opportunity to step back into a time when every detail on traditional dress spoke of national belonging, social class, and the aspiration towards modernity.
